Sometimes life isn’t straightforward, throwing challenging issues at us. We can feel overwhelmed and unable to cope alone. A safe space to talk in privacy and confidence with a “neutral” person who is prepared to really listen and help find different ways of looking at the problem can be invaluable.

I use a psychodynamic approach to therapy. This works with the understanding that what you think, how you feel and behave today are as a result of formative experiences. Looking at these early experiences together can help bring unconscious patterns of behaviour and relating to a conscious level. A new awareness can bring about change in how you understand and feel about yourself and how you relate to others, enabling you to tackle negative patterns and take better control, to make better choices for yourself.

I understand that reaching out for help takes courage and may seem daunting, my aim is to help you work through whatever is troubling you and bring about positive change opening the door to a happier, more fulfilling life.

I’ve been where you are now, looking for a therapist and not sure who to choose….it’s a daunting prospect!

Having had my own struggles and, subsequently, my own therapy, I know how important it is to find the right one, but you’ve taken the first step towards sharing the weight of what’s happening for you.

My belief is that therapy can help to alleviate the feeling of being alone with your problems and difficulties. Sometimes ‘letting someone else in’ can help tremendously and often it can be an avenue for change, if that is what you hope for.

I have worked with young people, both in and out of therapy, as well as adults in a variety of areas of mental health difficulties. My experiences demonstrate that understanding yourself better can open many personal ‘doors’ and people who are more emotionally aware tend to access more joy and fulfilment.

Life can be challenging, as therapy sometimes is too, but I have found it, as both a therapist and a client, to be a very rewarding experience. It is an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and how you then choose to live your life.

You may be wondering if counselling is right for you. Sometimes we just need a little help to see things differently. Choosing counselling as a means to explore your problems and concerns takes courage. Choosing a counsellor you feel comfortable with can be overwhelming. I can offer you a safe, confidential space where you will be listened to and heard. Together we can focus on and explore your difficulties at a pace that suits you.

We would arrange an initial, no-obligation meeting to ascertain how or whether we can work together to look at your concerns.

This may be over any length of time, determined by your needs. Our time together will develop a relationship which will build upon trust and enable us to explore the origins of some more deep-rooted anxieties or negative behavioural patterns that may become apparent. I work gently at your pace in order to achieve changes to improve the quality of your life, with the aim of helping you to understand your behaviour and how to improve your relationships.

As well as my counselling skills, I bring honesty, respect and an open mind to each session.

I am passionate about personal development and have been working in the health and well-being world for many years. My own growth in therapy began with a greater awareness and understanding of how my childhood relationships have influenced my adult relationships.

It has taken a lot of exploration into my past to leave behind a lack of confidence, shyness and feelings of not being good enough. Patterns of behaviour like these may be linked to adverse childhood experiences and Trauma in our past when we learn to push down our feelings. We can potentially damage our physical and mental health if we are not aware of the relationship between past trauma, repressed emotion, anxiety and depression.

I can support you, in either short-term or long-term therapy, to navigate any difficulties you may be facing as a result of something that might be happening right now or something from your past.

In long-term therapy we can work together to help gently release and let go of long-held emotion to understand and heal the wounds of the past. In short-term therapy, tailored to your needs, we can find tools and strategies to help resolve current problems. Whichever approach you choose, you will be supported in a safe, non-judgemental environment.
